Program

Optimization and simulation are two of the main research areas in Operations Research and typically considered as alternative methods to address decision support problems. With the increase of complexity in industrial problems, the development of hybrid approaches have been exploring the advantages of these methods, particularly to deal with uncertainty in order to reduce computational hindrance.

In this talk, we discuss how discrete event simulation is capable to incorporate high detail levels of production systems and the challenge of their combination with optimization models to search the problem solution.
