3rd Lecture - 7th Industrial Engineering and Management Seminars

April 3, 2022

Marcele Fontana, Professor and invited researcher from EIGeS (Research Centre in Industrial Engineering, Management and Sustaiability) presented the third lecture of the 7th Industrial Engineering and Management Seminars. She is from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE/Brasil) and discussed a relevant topic with students and researchers’ participation.

Summary

With the recent worldwide (re)discussion about Insourcing versus Outsourcing supply, caused by the restrictions imposed by the sanitary control of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to understand the relationships within the Supply Chain (CS) for better decision-making.

Collaboration is a specific form of relational change, which implies creating joint values. A competitive advantage built together along the CS will be much more difficult to be overcome by the competition. However, not all partnerships are beneficial or necessary. It is important to understand the characteristics involved. Therefore, this lecture will present the different types of relationships and the level of commitment in CS; the advantages, disadvantages and the process of implementing collaborative relationships; and the supplier development strategy.

We thank Prof. Marcele Fontana for accepting the invitation.
